It's been a long and winding road to get here. My first real programming experiences came in the late 1990's; a combination of programming my new Casio graphing calculator and practicing writing pure HTML in the Windows 98 edition of Notepad.
Needless to say, none of it was particularly good.
However, I kept at it and got to the point where I was working on rudimentary JS and CSS alongside my HTML. I also was able to upgrade from a Casio to the TI-83 and got exposed to TI-BASIC.
I spent a considerable amount of time in between high school and college. During this time, I taught myself a variety of things related to programming, while also exploring my other interests.
In the late 2000's/early 2010's, I was interested in electronic music production. My music history at that time included playing violin for 4 years around junior high while growing up in a musically inclined family and some dabbling on the keyboard, and a brief period where I attempted to understand FruiytLoops.
I progressed through a series of programs to create my music, starting with effectively a sequencer where I mostly arranged premade loops, then to Reason and Ableton.
Also in the early 2010s, I began teaching myself crochet. I eventually got it in my head that I could potentially make and sell crocheted goods, so I created a new name for myself. I intentionally chose a provocative name that hinted at the nature of my craft.
The nickname "Kiwi" has been a long part of my life -- predating even dj boots and craftymalehooker. It began as a junior high nickname "kay-wickie", which turned into "kwickie" and "kay-way", and then "kay-way" turned into "kee-wee" or "kiwi".
However, keywi didn't become the preferred spelling until the mid 2010's when I was looking for a way to revitalize myself. It coincided with the time period right before I met my wife, who in turn helped me realize that I could focus my love for programming towards getting a degree and doing something more meaningful with my talents.
studioKeywi is in many ways what I consider to be my "final form" in terms of pursuing my hobbies, as well as branding myself in my creative efforts.
